Nightbox's Remix of Snowmine's "Columbus" Was Built for Dancefloor Make-Outs

Snowmine make sweeping, emotive indie-pop that falls on just the right side of grandiose. It's heart-tugger music. You could be a cynical ass about them but then you would prove you had no soul—which is why it made perfect sense to interview the band a few months back for our This Modern Love column (a questionnaire shamelessly ripped from OkCupid).

On the other hand Nightbox create the kind of indie that pushes soft-focus introspection straight out the door, their objective is to inflame the dancefloor instead. "The Panic Sequence" bears traces of "Genius of Love" in its nimble guitar work, while "Burning," with its synth-pop backdrop, flexes suckerpunch hooks. The Toronto-based quartet—made of two Ireland and two guys from Toronto—are currently touring the States opening for Snowmine and to cement this partnership they've remixed "Colombus." And they've made it unrecognizable. But this is a good thing. Where the original was a eligiac epic, Nightbox's cut and paste vision submerges each part, coming up for air with a cooler cut. They sretch it out to six minutes of dancefloor hypnosis slightly reminiscent of say Gold Panda's "You," but like, way darker. That low end synth throb was built for late nights and half-remembered make-outs and you can download it for free below.
