Nic Hessler's "I Feel Again" Should've Been on the 'Singles' Soundtrack

It's a press repeat situation, so you too can feel like your life just fell into place as the credits roll.

Is that headline a little misleading? If you haven't seen Singles, WTF! It was one of Cameron Crowe's first flicks, a romantic comedy set in Seattle just as grunge was exploding, and it features an ensemble cast including Matt Dillon as the lead singer of Citizen Dick (key song: "Touch Me I'm Dick"—a nod to Mudhoney's Touch Me I'm Sick), while Pearl Jam made up the rest of his band. There's all kinds of other cameos in it too, like from Soundgarden's Chris Cornell, and there's a scene in a club where Alice in Chains are playing. It's a rom-com circa the mixtape heyday.

There's nothing grunge about Nic Hessler, but on "I Feel Again" the Californian specializes in the kind of zippy indie-pop that you can totally imagine playing out during the closing scenes of Singles when Matt Dillon finally remembers to say "Bless you" when Bridget Fonda sneezes (this is way significant—just watch the film), and when the movie's primary characters, played Kyra Sedgwick and Campbell Scott, finally make their way back to each other, and everyone who lives in their cute apartment complex carries on living awesome lives.

Also the song kicks off with some shitty, 80s lo-fi drums so that it sounds like you're listening to a bedroom recording through a busted transistor, AND THEN "I Feel Again" bursts through in HIGH DEF. Man, when that happens it sounds so, so good.

It's a press repeat situation, so you too can feel like your life just fell into place as the credits roll.
