Moon Dice Go Under the Bridge Downtown On the Video Premiere of ‘The Adventurer’

Melbourne band take you to the place you love. They take you all the way.

Though we doubt any of it was inspired by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, the new lo-fi video for “The Adventurer’” by Melbourne’s Moon Dice gets a bit “under the bridge”.

Taken from the four-piece’s upcoming My Motel Room cassette on Aussie-friendly US label Night People, it was filmed by Thomas Mendelovits of Milk Teddy and Full Ugly, and edited by Moon Dice’s Hamish O'Neill.

Featuring O’Neil’s gentle vocals and guitarist Jonathan Michell’s pretty guitar soloing, the video follows Hamish as he snoops around under the shadows of Melbourne’s CityLink. Other footage has the band hanging out at his place in Brunswick and hi-jinxing outside a Northcote fitness center.

Released on Saint Paul, Minnesota label Night People who have released music from Regional Curse, Superstar and Pop Singles, My Motel Room will be available soon.

The troll like Hamish O’Neil explains more.

Noisey: The video has a bit of The Adventures of Tintin: Under the Freeway feel to it. Is it a place you explore much?

Hamish O’Neil: Nope, but I loved Tintin as a kid. Tom and I decided to go to the end of the line of the first tram we saw. Turns out we ended up under CityLink link out the back of Docklands. I jumped some fences and set off some alarms and saw some people living out of their cars, cooking and stuff down there.

What’s in the bag? Spray paint?

I think my bag had a change of costume in it. You never know what show biz is going to throw your way. I was actually sweating my ass off in that outfit and we had to cut a few shots because there were some pretty unflattering moments. I just really wanted to wear that jacket as I’d just got it that weekend.

I like how you capture Melbourne on a rainy day—the real Melbourne—where Jon Michell springs from behind telephone poles.

Yeah that was a highlight. Jon was really acting up that day and I made sure I got as much of that as possible. My favourite part is when he jumps into the boot of my Vo. He’s like, “And then I’ll just get in the boot.” And I was like “Kewl”.
