Miley Cyrus Covering the Smiths Is a Thing that Exists in the World

Also, a new Morrissey song is a thing that exists in the world.

At this point in her career arc, having an opinion on Miley Cyrus is completely pointless. If you don't like her someone will say you're a buzzkill who hates fun, a dick who buys into the idea that commercial music is somehow less noble than indie music, or too basic to understand Miley's ability to bring trash culture to teens. If you do like her, then people will accuse you of lying to seem ironic, that you need to grow up and listen to music for adults, or that you're allowing an already-rich person get richer, which is bad. Regardless, no one is winning here by developing strong feelings about Miley Cyrus, and Miley is getting money no matter what you think of her, no matter what people think of what you think of her, and no matter what I think of the people who think of what you think of her. So we might as well just consume Miley Cyrus in whatever way makes us happy, not complain about it, and get on with our lives. Unless complaining about Miley Cyrus is what makes you happy. In which case, carry on.

Above is a video of Miley Cyrus covering the Smiths song that was in 500 Days of Summer. The audience sings along when Miley sings the part of the song that Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt sing to each other in the elevator. The rest of the world knows this song as "There Is a Light That will Never Go Out." It is a good song, even if you think The Smiths are overrated.

Morrissey, who is still not a twitter user, has also released a song today, because that is how the world works sometimes. It is titled "Istanbul." Stream it below, via Spotify.
