Lois and the Love shot by Roger Sargent.Lois & the Love have been knocking around for a minute, but last year was when the North London quartet's vision finally coalesced with the recording of their debut album Love Is Louder, to be released this summer. Produced by Killing Joke's Youth, the band—made up of Lois Winstone, Dean Sharp, Oli Longmore, and Eddie Banda—specialize in a riffy, danceable kind of swagger rock, with influences encompassing grunge, The Strokes, Blondie, Siouxsie Sioux and the Banshees, and krautrock. "Pinocchio" is the first song lifted from the record. It kicks off all sweet and synthy, hinged on Winstone's airy coo, but then lurches into a full throttle chorus. (And yes, if Lois' last name sounds familiar, she is indeed the daughter of acclaimed British actor Ray Winstone.) Considering you can't throw a cupcake without hitting a girl creating synth-swaddled bedroom pop, LATL are a refreshing, ballsy counterpoint.
