Listen to This Sick Eagles For Hands Remix of Laura Doggett's "Phoenix"

Sometimes make a girl sound like a boy and throwing down a beat is a very good thing.

About a month ago British newbie

Laura Doggett

dropped the SOHN-produced "Phoenix," a track built on a skipping piano line and layered with eerie intakes of breath, gospel purrs, and rippling echoes of what sounds like an enormous moth swooping past your ear lobe. Taking precedence over all of this is Doggett's dusky vocals—understated, unforced yet utterly arresting. Since then she's released a couple of remixes but this one, by Brighton DJ Eagles For Hands (sounds impractical), is our favorite by far.

By pitch-shifting her vocals into dude territory and throwing down a clattering beat with a two step kick and a bassier groove, he's taken this slow-burny torch tune and made it dancefloor ready. Cut and paste perfection.
