Listen to Reputante's "Iron Seven" Immediately

If his voice were a stance, James Levy would be leaning.

There's just something in the timbre of James Levy's voice—it's rich like red wine and heady with nonchalance. If his voice were a stance, Levy would be leaning. Having released their debut EP, Oceanside, on Cult Records, "Iron Seven" is NYC-based quartet Reputante's latest offering: a succinct pop song that blends classic city street cool and suave, string-laden romanticism.

You might recognize Levy (far left) and guitarist Jimmy (second from left). They make up Lolawolf, a collaboration with Zoë Kravitz (read our interview with Zoë here). They're here because, I guess, they've got songs to spare, and Lolawolf's musical bent is of an entirely different persuasion.

Truth be told, one wintry night a few months back I sat down with James for Noisey's This Modern Love column. Cigarettes were smoked, bottles were drunk, and what started off as a light chat about online dating turned into an intense couple hours of too-true tales of love and life. In part, this ability to be upfront and unflinchingly so is key to Reputante's appeal. (Listen to the Lou Reed-recalling "Neighbor" for further evidence.)

Keep your eyes peeled for Reputante's installment of This Modern Love and go see them on tour, but first listen to "Iron Seven" above.
