Listen to Nervous Nellie's New Track: "Shoulder"

Two sets of Sweden-based brothers unite to make sweetly mellow indie-pop with a message and that message is: beware.

Using your art to work through your issues is nothing new. Shitty relationships that translate into soul-crushing despair is a popular source of inspiration, but Sweden's Nervous Nellie continue to be concerned with events that occurred before they started sprouting pubes. You know, the formative years. This quartet is made up of two sets of brothers, two of which were plucked from Chicago when they were kids and taken—by their parents, not kidnappers—to Sweden. This is a great thing because they probably now speak five languages and the healthcare over there is stellar. However, this move and their subsequent sense of displacement has informed much of Nervous Nellie's music since. (No word on what concerns the other two bros are working through, but we trust this will come out in time.)

The band's most recent EP, "Gloves," featured the happiest indie-pop song about getting

eaten by bears

(NB: this is a metaphor), and below we've got their new single, "Shoulder" (out on September 16.) It's a mellow slow builder, working towards a kinda-calming climax of chiming guitars and layered vocal rounds fed through the filter of the 70s. Here, the brother's are keen to impress upon the listener the importance of looking over your shoulder, but it should also be noted that they don't wanna have to remind you about this constantly. So: look over your shoulder from time-to-time. It's dangerous out there, after all, and you should be wary of muggers because they want money, not hugs.
