Let Bill Murray Teach You How to Drink at SXSW

Two words: Montana Cooler.

Tomorrow, I am boarding a flight from New York to Austin, Texas, where I will be experiencing my first ever South by Southwest. For 99% of the population of America, this means nothing. But for those in the entertainment and tech industries, SXSW is like spring break but with networking, a magical place where anything can happen, and you just might die of heat poisoning. I am sort of terrified, sort of completely excited, and 100% prepared to die in my quest to create content.

The fact of the matter is, people are going to drink at SXSW. A lot. And while it's going to be pretty damn temporate down in Austin all week, various music industry professionals and hangers-on are going to be imbibing a metric fuckton of Lone Star in the sun while watching bands they'll never remember, and that is dangerous. Who can they turn to for advice in this daunting time? Bill the fuck Murray, that's who. It's no secret that Bill fucks with SXSW hardbody, having once crashed a party with the GZA and proceed to only serve tequila. And now the wily Bill has blessed us with an incredibly crucial tip for anyone who wants to stay hydrated and not die, via a recent interview with Dazed Digital. Take it away, Chill Murray:

The way I like to drink champagne is I like to make what we call a Montana Cooler, where you buy a case of champagne and you take all the bottles out, and you take all the cardboard out, and you put a garbage bag inside of it, then you put all the bottles back in and then you cover it with ice, and then you wrap it up and you close it. And that will keep it all cold for a weekend and you can drink every single bottle. And the way I like to drink it in a big pint glass with ice. I fill it with ice and I pour the champagne in it, because champagne can never be too cold. And the problem people have with champagne is they drink it and they crash with it, because the sugar content is so high and you get really dehydrated. But if you can get the ice in it, you can drink it supremely cold and at the same time you're getting the melting ice, so it's like a hydration level, and you can stay at this great level for a whole weekend. You don't want to crash. You want to keep that buzz, that bling, that smile.

So, there you have it. Montana Cooler. Champagne. Ice. That's the ticket, and don't you forget it, bub.
