There are a few things that we appreciate here at Noisey: one of them is ambition and another is a taste of the surreal. French band La Femme serve both up in spades in the form of their video for "Amour dans le Motu." Clocking in at nearly 10 minutes, it's less a pop promo than a short film packed with a kaleidoscopically strange orgy of imagery: soldiers lurking through the jungle segues to scenes of gyrating hula babes; a dimly lit den of iniquity is crammed with men sporting conical rice paddy hats, gas masks, and elaborately painted faces.Then, at the halfway point, the music flips from new wave-tinged psych-surf-pop to a Moroder style synth meltdown—the perfect soundtrack to a paranoia spiral—combined with Great Gatsby-on-acid visuals. What the fuck was this director on and can we have some of it?The skinny on La Femme is they're big news in France. Saint Laurent's Hedi Slimane used one of their songs in a recent catwalk show, Jean Michel Jarre is a a fan, and they recently won the French equivalent of a Grammy for Best New Artist.
