Julian + The Voidz Release 10 Minute Epic "Human Sadness"

What's Jules on about now?

Remember when we all loved The Strokes because they produced perfect, instantly catchy three minute songs that subsequent spent days ricocheting round our heads? Well Casablancas, along with his new troupe of leather-vest wearing dudes The Voidz, continues to veer far from the tropes that won The Strokes millions of devoted fans. This latest offering—from the album Tyranny—is ten minutes of cinematically strange sonic experimentation.

The first movement (if you will) begins like a warped Disney soundtrack: mournful strings are backed by a rather Strokesian bassline before the vocals are submerged and obscured by a guitar that runs the same melody. If you thought Casablancas' lyrics were impossible to decipher before, well there's no hope in hell of the listener gleaning a shred of meaning from "Human Sadness." Instead you must rely on plaintive murmurings and vast, scorched earth soundscapes (head to the five minute mark) to communicate emotion.

Another point to note: his drummer is SICK. Tyranny is out on 9.23 via Cult Records.
