It's a Dog's Life: Here's Nico Yaryan's Video for "You Belong to Me"

Man, love is rough.

You know when you meet someone you like and the world seems shiny and new? And doing dumb shit like gazing at each other under the sheets as the sunlight filters through a la that scene in Baz Luhrman's Romeo + Juliet seems like a totally acceptable way to spend 20 minutes in the morning? Ugh. Well know this! One of you will end up with your heart sliced thin like a watermelon radish in an overpriced salad. You will end up crying on a synthetic motel bed, you will end up bawling as you sit on the toilet. At least that's the trajectory portrayed in Nico Yaryan's video for "You Belong to Me." Honestly it's hard to argue with this narrative. Love is rough, but Yaryan's video is humorous—mostly thanks to the construct that he's hopelessly besotted with a golden retriever. Hey, the key to getting out of the dark times is LAUGHTER.

The LA-based singer's only just released his debut album, What a Tease (out now on Partisan Records) and we're hoping it's a sleeper hit. The other month we premiered "Just Tell Me" which is lowkey one of the best songs of the year—full of a torn longing and Nico looking cool. On the flipside "You Belong to Me" offers a different, slightly more obsessional take on romance—over charmingly plinky piano chords, natch. It sounds both very now and like the kind of 7-inch you dusted off from your crazy uncle's attic and fell in love with from the first spin.
