I watch the shit just like you do. It's crazy, because motherfuckers come and go. They go from having one record being on the radio, getting cosigns from different people, but that don't mean you're gonna be around for five or six years. I listen to a lot of old shit. Shit, old Hot Boyz, old B.G., old Boosie. Gangster music. That's the music that talks to me. A lot of the new shit you hear in the club all the time, that don't talk to me. That's not experienced music.

Lakutis - Three Seashells

It's a crime that the New York rapper Lakutis isn't more famous. Like, seriously. Dude's one of the smartest, funniest spitters working right now, technically skilled-enough to keep up with guys like Action Bronson, but with an wild-card-of-your-crew vibe to him, like he's your homie who'd shirtlessly throw a trashcan at a cop car at three in the morning when you guys are leaving the bar and get away with it, because he's that nice with the mischief. He also trained to be a cage fighter in Thailand, and he is an objectively beautiful-looking man.

Kindness - World, You Need a Change of Mind

Thank you iTunes shuffle for throwing this up last night and reminding me of the utter amazingness of Kindness, a.k.a Adam Bainbridge. You could write a 1500-word essay on his basslines alone. True, no one would read it, but they're really that good. And yes "Swingin' Party" is a cover of a Replacements song, but oh what Kindness does to it. That pony canter beat and that Blondie "Heart of Glass" synth throb! GODDAMN. Also I want to make a bed of his hair and roll around in it.

Chief Keef - "Citgo (Instrumental)"

There is not one other song that has had an impact on my life in the last year as much as "Citgo" has. Call me corny, tell me I have bad taste, then try listening to the fucking instrumental of this song at 7 AM when the sun is rising in Brooklyn and you stayed up all night getting fucked up in your cute little studio with your dude. I do that probably every other weekend—and the original producer finally put the full instrumental on his YT a few weeks ago, so I've been playing it on loop. The producer's name is Young Ravisu, a Polish teen/producer who was discovered by Keef on YouTube. You should follow Ravisu on Twitter and Instagram, he's wild. Anyway, let this be your soundtrack to Friday night—whether you're at home sobbing and subtweeting, or you're out getting drunk.

Brian Eno - "Needle in the Camel's Eye"

Been on a total glammy kick that I think started with a drunken night and Velvet Goldmine on the bar's TV. The era pumped out some serious anthems, but even amongst all of those this is a fucking bonafide glam classic. Damn near infinitely repeatable. The record, also perfect. Hurry up and listen to it already, and while you're at it make sure to peep all of the early Roxy Music. You owe it to yourself.

Solids - "Haze Away"
Man, I saw Solids perform in Montreal when I was up there for M for Montreal this past November, and it was one of those nights you just don't forget, and then you tell your friends the story of seeing them that night over and over again, so much so that they can recite it back to you when you open your mouth, kind of like what always happens in sitcoms. Anyway, this band is only two dudes and they play really fucking loud. That night in Canada, I moshed with my new Canadian friends for about 20 minutes, got elbowed in the head twice, and did some other things I can't write about because I'm nervous my mom will read this. Their new record Blame Confusion came out this past week, and you should listen to it. Seriously. I like this music so much that I'm posting about a Canadian band on the very same day those chumps beat Team USA in hockey.
