Ilsa and Noisem Stream and Comment On New Tracks By The Other

Stream two new tracks and catch the doom-and-roll band Ilsa's thoughts on the death metal favorites Noisem and vice versa.

Maybe you've heard of Noisem, the Baltimore band of wunderkind that took the Morbid Angel Blessed Are the Sick sound into different realms, all while collectively under the age of 22. And maybe you've heard of Ilsa, the Celtic Frost-meets-doom steamroller responsible for the embarassingly great Intoxicantations while openly fetishizing their love for b-film of yesteryear. But you have not heard the labelmates speak on each other's offerings, especially now that both have records due very soon via A389 Recordings (order yours).

As such, we snagged Joshy Brettell of Ilsa and Tyler Carnes of Noisem to comment on two tracks from the other's bands, both of which make their debut here. Check out their thoughts, and catch both bands with Repulsion and Pig Destroyer at Mary Graydon Center in Washington, DC on April 25 (tickets available at the door).

Joshy Brettell (ILSA) Talks about Noisem’s Blossoming Decay and the track “Graining Enamel“

I have to admit that I heard this record a couple of months ago at Developing Nations when Ilsa was recording some tracks for a couple of splits. I was immediately jealous. Mostly because I'm almost 40 years old and have never been able to make such consistently awesome music as naturally as Noisem do.
I’m really impressed with the manic feel on this album, and there aren’t many other bands that have pulled this off on a recording. The first record from The Haunted has that kind of feel, as does 'Completely Dehumanized' by December Wolves. I guess you could say Scum was intense like this, but Napalm at the time didn't have anything near the tightness of this.

“Graining Enamel”
There's more death metal style chugging here, a pretty catchy riff. The recording sounds awesome, Kevin Bernsten did a great job on this. If I close my eyes during the solos I can imagine Sebastian playing… I can't tell if the red and orange flashes are his auburn hair, crackling with red hot electricity, or the flames coruscating from his nimble fingers flying up and down the fretboard. I've probably listened to it five times in a row to write this stuff and I'm not sick of it, so that says something!

Tyler Carnes (Noisem) Talks about ILSA’s The Felon's Claw and the track “Pass // Out “

An ever lingering scent drifts from Bradley Cook's speakers as we drive to pick up trash…the scent of spicy riffs. I've been anticipating this record as much as everybody else since the thunderous Intoxicantations dropped in 2012, and alas it has arrived. Absolutely ferocious.

I can honestly say that there is no doubt that this record should be a contender for one of the best metal albums of this year. Everything you have been expecting has been achieved, and every doubt you may have had has been crushed. This is hands down the best collection of songs Ilsa has ever produced. If you haven't listened to Intoxicantations yet, I still recommend you do so but if you want to see Ilsa at their best, break the chains around you with The Felons Claw. AH!

"Pass \\ Out"
That mid paced tremolo picking is sending a shock up my spine. Umph, too good. I can honestly say that Brendan's guitars kill it on this record, and witnessing this material being played live I can surely say that I will be put awe, thus being made numb. In conclusion, shits dope.
