Ice-T didn’t owe us, the internet, anything more this year. He already bestowed upon us the year’s best video for his song “Talk Shit, Get Shot,” which is more of a contribution to popular culture than most people can hope to achieve in their entire lifetimes. But then Sir T went and gifted us with his female-positive song, "Bitch in the Pit" and Body Count's cover of Suicidal Tendencies’ “Institutionalized,” in which he complains about Oprah and email. And on top of that, he’s still releasing his bi-monthly Final Level podcast in which he often goes into great detail about things like recording a Dungeons & Dragons audiobook. And not to mention his Twitter account, which provides us with an unfettered look into the mind of the man himself which—surprise—is ridiculous, random, and wonderful. But in spite of churning out all of that material this year, Ice managed to get one more in before the bell rings on 2014: This cover of “Turn Down for What.”From Fearless Records’ Punk Goes Pop 6 comp, which offers neither punk nor pop, the DJ Snake/Lil Jon club hit is given the shitty metalcore treatment by a band called Upon a Burning Body. And while they manage to take the song and funnel it through an unlistenable filter of generic growlcore, fortunately, Ice is in the mix to salvage it. The main critique of the video would be: There’s not enough Ice-T in it. There should be approximately 1000% more Ice-T in it. Ice-T should be in every single shot and, if for some reason he’s not, those shots should feature everyone else holding up photos of Ice-T, trying to locate where he is.
