Think back to the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Windscale fire, Chernobyl, or any other major event where humans convince themselves that the world is on the way down the poo-bucket: as a species, we've got an un-fucking-believable ability to enjoy ourselves when things gets biblical.
So when this gem came sliding across our desk a few weeks back, we were sold. The track is called "Croc," and it's by Widows, the US coast-straddling duo of MC Jimmy Jams and producer Bobby Evans. The track finds Jimmy Jams spitting lines about keeping your head above water in the face of disaster. Check this little nugget out and try not to chuckle knowingly while stroking your chin:
|
"The polar ice caps meltin' baby, we next up/ The whole world is so messed up… Let's fuck." |
The video was directed by the multi-talented and prolific Sam Macon, and it gets the point across hard - stark black and white tones augment Jams' ice-cold cries of "Let it fall/ We don't need no umbrellas at all."
If these guys are leading the pack, we're down, umbrellas or not.
Widows put out an EP this spring on Earnest Endeavours (on special edition vinyl, no less!), which you should immediately order by clicking right here.
