Gunplay is the best. If you've been reading Noisey since we interviewed him about the secret world government, you probably should have realized that we think Gunplay is the best. He is like the artisinal organic goat cheese of yell-rap; pure, perfect product for the true connoissuer. He made his mainstream debut on a Rick Ross song called "Gunplay (Featuring Gunplay)," packing his verse with alliteration and weirdly specific lines, like when he framed his friends as, "Never-seen-a-laptop-in-the-projects niggas." It's debatable whether or not Gunplay's Ross affiliation has bolstered him or held him back--he's a member of Triple C's, which was Rick Ross's first crew before Rozay recruited Meek Mill, Wale, Stalley and Omarion for his Maybach Music Group and made Triple C's irrelevant because everyone in the group but Gunplay really sucked (Ross made them wear matching outfits if that tells you anything). Oh also, if Gunplay wasn't trying to play the "gunplay" element of his persona up, he is currently under house arrest for pulling a gun on his accountant, which we're pretty sure counts as gunplay.
If there were true justice in this world, Gunplay's "Bogota" would have been a Top Ten hit rather than a late-night Hot 97 staple, but we can make it up to Gunplay by playing the fuck out of his new single "Drop." It's pretty great, and you can tell that his label Def Jam wants this to be a legit hit, because they only released the radio version. Turns out Gunplay doesn't lose his power when he's not allowed to scream the word "Fuck."
