Detroit Duo Gosh Pith Drop "Cosmic Trap" tune "Smoke Bellow"

Written post-rave, at 6 AM, recorded in a vacant space, mixed in a pal's car. That's just how they do it in Detroit.

Somewhere in space, an alien is doing the shmoney dance to “cosmic trap,” a slick blend of hip-hop and pop hooks, and a genre Detroit-based songwriting duo Gosh Pith have ear-marked as their own. This week, they drop another bit of funkiness in the form of “Smoke Bellow”—which is only their second ever public song. With its trappy synths and snares, and airy vocals, the song has an ethereal, dream-like feeling, which makes it the perfect early morning comedown tune.

In fact, the duo, made up of 23 year olds Josh Smith and Josh Freed, wrote "Smoke Bellow" at 6 AM following a night raving in an empty warehouse. You’re reading that right, empty warehouse raves aren’t limited to the beginning scenes of The Matrix.

"We were driving home, passing people on the road on the way to their 9-to-5, and my thoughts were teetering between robbing a bank or renouncing all of life's comfy norms," recalls Smith.

Apparently they then stitched the tune together on borrowed equipment, recording in vacant spots and mixing in friends' cars. Classic Detroit resourcefulness. This song will get its official release—backed with remixes by fellow Detroit trio Jamaican Queens and Jonah Baseball, among others—in December. Until then you can listen to it below and catch them on tour.
