This is Gaz Coombes.

This was taken at JFK Airport, and he has two kilos of good quality Durban Poison under that hat, hence the expression of extreme concentration. If Gaz looks a lot like an older version of the singer from Supergrass, that's because he is, and because it's been several years since you last saw a photo of him.

Anyway, soz, but Supergrass is dead, kids. Gaz  is now solo. I guess that means he's about to become his authentic self...

Metaphor:

Well, having "broken free of the shackles," "embraced creative freedom," and generally burst forth into the world like a newly-born 36-year-old former Britpopper, Gaz has decided that his authentic self is basically Thom Yorke's The Eraser + Supergrass + Elliot Smith + Beatles circa Revolver + Chris Rea + Usual Solo Album Air Of Understatement.

Is this a bad thing? No, but it is a fairly understated thing. And by "understated," we mean a tiny, teeny, liiiiittle, itsy-bitsy bit dull.

Sorry, Gaz.
