Eyedress Is Trapped In a Matrix Programmed By Stoners In His Video for "Where My Girl At?"

The Manila-based artist dishes a woozy slow jam that asks some fairly pertinent questions.

It's a question people probably ask all the time—even if their partners are like, just in the bathroom for a really long while—but Eyedress makes no bones about the meaning here:

"It's about being played and giving the wrong person a chance but still trying to be a good person about it," he explains. "It's about wanting to be exclusive with someone who's got commitment issues. It's not really a love song but more like a departure from someone that used to matter."

Fuckin' commitment issues. Those of you not familiar with Eyedress here are the particulars:

- His real name is Idris—see what he did there for his artist name?

- He lives in Manila in the Philippines, but has also lived in California and London.

- We've been championing him for actual years—thanks to songs like "Teen Spirit" and "Nature Trips."

- Previously we'd have called his music synth-enabled shoegaze-pop. But in this case, with its minimalist sonics and heavily manipulated vocals, "Where's My Girl At?" sounds more like a woozy, MS-DOS slow jam. It also might be his most explicit song to date, with "Better keep her pussy tight," being one of the lyrics. In the video he appears to be trapped in the matrix, if the matrix was programmed by stoners. Dope.

"Where My Girl At?" is out on Manimal on 11.13.
