Appreciate the Joys of Food-Based Synchronized Swimming with Emilyn Brodsky’s Video for “Born Again”

Wet pretzels rule.

Synchronized swimming, when you think about it, is an incredibly odd sport. A bunch of people competing to see who is the best at doing things in a pool at the same time. It’s like a game a nine-year-old would invent. But then again, so are most sports.

Emilyn Brodsky pays tribute to this time-honored, definitely-not-invented-by-a-child Olympic sport in her new video for “Born Again.” But with lots of food references thrown in—pretzels, turkey, broccoli. Brodsky says it’s an homage to Esther Williams and Busby Berkeley. “It’s the story of how women and food will pull you out of the darkest woods—and the metaphorical pot in which you are stewing,” she says. Very appropriate, considering her album title, Emilyn Brodsky Eats Her Feelings. Plus an appearance by Olympic bronze medalist Kim Vandenberg.

Brodsky lays on the aquatic quirk extra thick with her ukulele solo and bright-eyed underwater close-ups, highlighting the fun of this already exceedingly catchy song. Emilyn Brodsky Eats Her Feelings is out via Dead Stare. Pack your swim cap and catch her on tour.
