"Melt" into Drowse's Hypnotic Exploration of Suicide and Medication

“Melt,” by Drowse, will make you feel like someone is holding your head under water in the Pacific Ocean.

“Melt,” by Drowse, will make you feel like someone is holding your head under water in the Pacific Ocean. The track is at once beautiful, eerie and hypnotic. It builds in atmosphere throughout, as a simple guitar rhythm and soothing-yet-creepy vocals eventually take over its synth-dominated sonic space. Think a post black metal take on Slowdive meets Explosions in the Sky.

Drowse is the Portland-based solo project of Kyle Bates, and has shared bills with Planning for Burial, King Woman and Sloths. His new record “Soon Asleep” (on Portland label APNEICVOID), accompanied by a 40-page memoir, documents the artist’s relationship with prescription drugs; his previous release dealt with his near-suicide.

Scope the new track below. The forthcoming LP is available June 9.
