PREMIERE: Drose's New Record 'boy man machine' Twists Noise and Rock into Metallic Evil

One of the most intense listens you will experience this year.

About a year ago, I wrote about the Columbus Ohio band Drose, and their chaotic brand of noise rock, a completely different and grimy experience than I had heard before. Today, the band is premiering their debut full-length record, boy man machine, and Jesus Christ. From the immediate beginning of the record, you can feel a kind of metallic claustrophobia with loud percussive elements striking over a voice whispering out. Guitars crash in, adding another layer of noise and confusion on top of everything into a tense atmosphere. The record tricks the listener, twisting any expectation of where a track is headed inward on itself. "a loss" begins with a drumb beat suggesting a potential huge and heavy track, before it churns together drum beats, leaving the listener repeatedly on the edge of anticipation. The band thrives off false beginnings and extreme song-structures, revealing each song path to be a choking labyrinth with no escape. It's one of the most intense listens one will experience in time to come, offering a sort of twisted beauty in its complete dismantling of rock, rearranging it in a grotesque, awe-inspiring shape.
