PREMIERE: Down Among the Dead Men's Crusty Death Metal Is "Forged in Fire"

Stream an earth-shaking Anvil cover from the Discharge-loving death metal supergroup.

I've been listening to Down Among the Dead Men's cover of the raging Discharge classic "Protest and Survive" on repeat all morning. It's fitting, given today's Vice media blackout in protest of Turkish authorities's unlawful detainment of our comrade, journalist Mohammed Rasool, but outside of that ongoing struggle, it's just a killer song. The filth and the anger remains, but the traditional d-beats are weighted down under a barrage of old-school death metal fury.

Vocalist Dave Ingram's root show when the former Bolt Thrower and Benediction singer (and current host of Metal Breakfast Radio) lets out a roar, bellowing atop finely-aged crusty death; take a minute to daydream about Anti Cimex recording at Sunlight Studios back in '90, and you get the idea. If you prefer a little less punk in your metal, "Protect and Survive" isn't the only cover on Down Among the Dead Men's latest album, Exterminate! Annihilate! Destroy! (out November 6 via Cyclone Empire).

Rounded out by guitarist Dennis Blomberg (Paganizer), bassist Rogga Johansson (ex-Edge of Sanity, Ribspreader, Bone Gnawer), and session drumme

the seasoned trio have also included a sepulchral take on Anvil's "Forged in Fire," with guest vocals courtesy of the one and only Kam Lee (ex-Death, Massacre, Mantas, Denial Fiend). Stream it below:
