Chrome Sparks and "The Meaning of Love"

I wanna know what love is… I want you to show me…

What does love mean to you? Love to me is a friend giving me beef jerky when I have the 5pm munchies. Love is providing me with a cinnamon pastry after I've stepped off a six hour flight. Love is mac and cheese with a side of smiles. Calling all feeders! YOU KNOW WHERE I AM. But enough about me, let's talk Chrome Sparks, the Brooklyn-based, Pittsburgh-reared electronicist his teachers called Jeremy Malvin. His last massive tune was 2012's "Marijuana" which has since had two million plus plays. A roaring success due to (probably) a bunch of stoned people on the internet vibing off his layers of quivering synths, snare rat-tat-tats, and skillfully submerged vocals. (Hang on, was that a harp?)

Today we're premiering "The Meaning of Love" lifted from Chrome Sparks' new six track EP, Goddess (out now via Future Classic). For this music-maker, the meaning of love—or at least the soundtrack to it—is enveloping like a warm hug, but it's also nebulous and strange, because sometimes, like this track, it feels like love can slip away at any second. Yet by the same token, and also like love, this song builds bar by bar, layer by cosmic layer until "The Meaning of Love" is unstoppable. I don't know how he's managed to make this instrumental sound both invincible and vulnerable, but this is six minutes of magic.
