Strip away the dream-pop vocals and the goth-y post-punk mid-section from "Pleasure Blind" (streaming here), and the pedigree becomes clearer… are a metal band in hiding. The genetic make up of Vaura is telling; members of death metal gods Gorguts and metal-meets-chamber-pop crew Kayo Dot intermingle with goth-inflected Religious to Damn and synth pop duo Azar Swan to create a fascinating hybrid of all of the above. Expanding on their debut LP Selenion, Vaura is adventurous and fascinating, crafting shoegaze-pop using a heavy-metal toolset.
