Breaking: Jaden and Willow Smith Perform at Beats by Dre Store in Manhattan, Jaden Smith to Release Album at Midnight

Tonight, Jaden Smith tweeted that he and his sister Willow would be at the Beats by Dre store in SoHo, which meant that I needed to be at the Beats by Dre store in SoHo. After I conned my way into the store, which contained a crowd of kids who weren’t old enough to drive (mostly), I found Willow Smith capping off a short, vibrant set. As her song ended, her brother ran onstage, hair bouncing under a black cap, shifting the mood from serene to something with a harder edge. Jaden tore through a high-energy one-song set, only to announce he would be dropping an album in app format tonight at midnight. The crowd proceeded to (obviously) go apeshit.

If you read between the lines of the siblings’ recent New York Times interview, you can tell that the pair care about each other and support each other both musically and otherwise. The Q&A that followed their performance only reinforced that, as they radiated appreciative energy for those who came out.
