Big Ups are a time bomb waiting to go off. The Brooklyn band spends much of their debut album, Eighteen Hours of Static, lulling you into a false sense of security with their extended Fugazi-esque bassline meanderings and moderately tempoed jams. Then out of nowhere, the band explodes in an absolute blast of sheer spastic mayhem.

Take the album’s opener, “Body Parts” for example. A slow and simple precursor to “Goes Black,” one of the hardest ripping songs you’ll likely hear this year. That’s sort of the way Eighteen Hours of Static is. A constant series of 1-2 punches that will leave you battered and fucked up.

Big Ups’ debut is out January 14 and you can stream an early listen of it below. Pre-order it from Dead Labour here.
