Alex Metric Drops a Banger: "Drum Machine" Featuring The New Sins

Plus the London producer announces his 'Ammunition Pt. 4' EP which includes a collaboration with The Knocks.

Round of applause for this first tune from Alex Metric's forthcoming EP, Ammunition Pt. 4 (part one was released back in 2012). It's a splendidly minimalist number that'll send your limbs into (hopefully) co-ordinated spasms, even if you're sitting at your desk. A collaboration with The New Sins (a.k.a. Lou Hayter from New Young Pony Club), the opening bars of "Drum Machine" are faintly reminisicent of "Hustler," Simian Mobile Disco 2007 ode to being broke—and if you haven't seen the budget-brilliant video involving East LDN babes telling secrets and making out, then you must do so immediately. But Metric's moves here are cleaner and more booty-ful with the chorus eschewing vocals almost entirely, leaving the beats to take the starring role. It seems only appropriate given this song worships at the altar of an inanimate beatmaker. "Drum Machine" is sleek as a lady's baby-oiled flank.

"'Drum Machine was an experiment in limitations," explains the London-based artist. "I wanted to make a track using only 1 drum machine (a TR8 for those that are interested), no synths, nothing musical, and see what that would force me to do. It came out of a lot of jamming and recording stuff live then chopping it up. I had the vocal line in my head before I started the tune, I actually recorded it before I made the track then built the track around the vocal. I had been a fan of The New Sins since i heard 'Lights Down Low' and knew Lou would be perfect for the vocal. Really pleased with how this experiment turned out, a straight up club weapon thats both memorable and minimal."

The five track EP includes collaborations with The Knocks, AMTRAC, and the aforementioned The New Sins. Metric's been making music and remixing like a boss since he started making waves back in the mid-2000s and the Londoner's currently on the road forever (OK two months) with Zedd, plus the likes of Madeon and Dillon Francis, and yes, we're urging you to go.
