Adult Problems - Alarms And Controls Is New Old Shit

Come see them play in NYC this Saturday!

Look, I know you love the old shit; you’re psyched about the Revelation Records Anniversary shows, you got a Chain Of Strength onesie and a dachshund named Into Aweiner. I get it—when I heard Rites Of Spring were releasing their demos, I was so thrilled that I gave my Guy/Ian slash fiction a happy ending…FOR ONCE. So, if you want to merrily prance around in hardcore nostalgia euphoria, do it up. That being said, when I hear old Dischord dudes making something new, I’m fucking delighted. Makes me feel like my existence is not an entirely futile exercise in looking back to 1993 and sighing.

Alarms and Controls is a new Dischord band with ex-members of Circus Lupus, 1.6 Band (!), and Hunger Artist. While they’re clearly products of their environment (their snare sound might as well have a Dischord copyright insignia on it), they’re stretching out. Throwing enough art pop into the punk mix to keep it interesting. They describe themselves as a combination of Minutemen and Can, and that’s spot on. Thanks for saving me the work, Alarms and Controls!

Anyway, the point is: They’re new, not reunited, and completely awesome. They’re also playing NYC this Saturday, at Lone Wolf in Bushwick, with Poor Lily and New York’s finest skronk jerk ranters, Family Curse. And, if you absolutely must have some nostalgia in yr soup, Brett from Heroin is putting on the show. So there you go; bases covered.
