Premiere: A-Villa Recruits Roc Marciano, Willie the Kid, and Action Bronson for "Live From the Villa"

The Chicago producer's rap verse collection is even better with these live and direct contributions from some of New York's finest.

Earlier this summer, Chicago producer A-Villa caught my attention with the concept for his project, Carry on Tradition, in which he had basically spent years reaching out to his favorite rappers and collecting verses from them for his beats to create a sort of rap scrapbook (a rapbook?). With "Live from the Villa," he was able to take a slightly different approach than he had with some of his emailed song compositions, actually getting into the studio with each of the New York artists featured. The result, which includes verses from Action Bronson, Roc Marciano, and Willie the Kid, is a slice of lyrical excellence and, in Bronson's case, culinary enticement (almonds with the couscous sounds fucking delicious right now). With its looming, symphonic beat, this song feels a little like some twisted Wu-Tang side project that teleported to 2010s Queens for these MCs to uncover. A-Villa shared his thoughts on it coming together, as well as his impressions of the rappers involved:

"'Live From The Villa' is just a hard rap record equipped with ill rhymes and slick wordplay on one of the darkest beats I've made. I used to play this beat during producer competitions and it always got the heads nodding crazy in the crowd. The meaning behind the song title is self-explanatory: It's just me serving the people that live, uncut, ruff, rugged, and raw hip-hop. And the three artists embrace that same quality in their own music. Action Bronson, Roc Marciano, and Willie The Kid have released songs together before and have always proven to be a deadly combination on any track.

'Live From The Villa' is no different, as their chemistry is evident, with each of their verses flowing into the next. And although a lot of these type of collab songs get made through email, I'm proud to say that this was not one those. I was 'live and direct' in the studio with each of them and we've recorded a handful of songs, including this one. And beyond their talent as incredible artists, all three are the most humble and down to earth people I've met in music. No Hollywood act, they always show love, they answer my calls or texts, and they're always down to make more music with me. You don't always get that from some of your favorite rappers. And I hope 'Live From The Villa' is just one of many songs we create together. Until then, I hope the people embrace this one and turn their volume up to 11 (yes, a Spinal Tap reference)."

Basically, if you support dope rappers coming together for a worthwhile collaboration with a compelling Chicago producer with a great story, listen on below. "Live from the Villa" will be on Carry on Tradition, which is due out November 5.
