Enter the Eerie, Weird, and Wonderful World of Lawrence Rothman's "H"

It's another stunning and unsettling effort by mercurial solo artist Rothman and legendary auteur Floria Sigismondi.

So what's the deal with Lawrence Rothman? This much we know: every single video he's released dating as far back as 2013, has been directed by legendary music video auteur Floria Sigismondi—the Italian-Canadian responsible for videos such as Christina's "Fighter," Marilyn Manson's "Beautiful People," and Katy Perry's "ET," not to mention promos for Bowie, Interpol, Bjork and others. Sonically Rothman's oeuvre is eclectic, while hers is an alluringly gothic collage of recurring visual tropes—bodies moving at disoncerting speeds, frequently fantastic choreography, an eerie Lynchian vibe. In their latest joint effort for the LA-native's new song "H" the look is very Adventures of Baron Munchausen meets Vincent Price meets American Horror Story, featuring the most excellent trio of dancers WIFE (Diplo is a fan). Lifted from Rothman's forthcoming record, which features Angel Olsen and Kim Gordon to name a few, "H" is a sliver of glimmering noir-pop accented by Rothman's wine rich tones, and underscored by Sigismondi's precisely detailed world of weird. "Hollywood, we'll always be together, forever, forever," sings H, his vocal a spiraling, obsessive embrace.

"'H' is a song about how we all go a little mad sometimes, but using the insanity to improve upon your craft," explains Rothman. "The legendary Jim Keltner who played with John Lennon played drums on this song. LA is a sunny place for shady people, and some, I stress, some, of its inhabitants are ruled by the idea of never loosing that 'teen spirit.' Under the knife forever young, is the MO. The video displays a surrealist stuck in the limbo state of this LA ideal. But fuck I do love you LA!"
